Spice Girls vs Jordan Allen!

Photo is Destroy The Evidence - live at Jabez Clegg

Incoming!!!
My weekly blog on music hath arrived - I know how excited you all are...

Anyway...

So the big musical event for me this week (and for a lot people in Manchester) was the arrival of the Spice Girls for three nights at the MEN Arena in the city. The reason it was big for me was that I was set the challange by BBC Manchester of obtaining a ticket.

Legitimate methods didn't work, and I wasn't prepared (or allowed!!!) to pay the extortionate ebay prices, so I took the 'press' route. I managed to get two free (yes, free!) tickets, and admission to a very exclusive press-conference.

However... yes, there's a 'however'... I couldn't go. I had another very special gig to get to... my own!!! Jordan Allen live in Manchester!

Yup, my friend's band, Destroy The Evidence, had organised a gig at Jabez Clegg in Manchester and asked me to provide support, which I duly did.

Did a ten song set, backed with my friend Rory Holland on the bass - 5 covers, 5 of my own, and it went down really well! But the real stars were Destroy The Evidence... I'm going to be surprised if they don't make it really big in a few years. Original songs, stage presence... they've got it all.

Here's a video of them performing 'The Apparitions'

Was I disappointed that I missed the Spice Girls?

Not at all!
The station sent another reporter to cover it, so we still got some great audio from it, and I enjoyed my gig. Wayhey!!!

Jordan's songs of the weeeeeek:

Suede - Trash: I recently bought Suede's 'Singles' album, and have fallen in love with it. They were a band that seemed to pass me by back in the day, so I've cottoned on to them very late indeed. Trash is fantastic though - excellent lyrics and brilliant guitar work!

Rancid - Olympia WA: I love the album that this comes from - '...and out come the wolves', and decided an acoustic version of this song would work well for my gig. And it did! Sounded alright!

Until next week!
